Accidente mortal de Dick Johnson
Me acabo de enterar que Dick Johnson, el de los tests de veleros, ha fallecido en accidente de vuelo.

Dear LUIS ,
I imagine that many of you have already heard this, but I thought I should send a note out just in case you haven't yet heard.
Soaring legend and gentleman Dick Johnson died in a sailplane accident on Wednesday, July 23rd. The specifics are not clear. The data that we know for certain is that he was flying his Ventus A "JD" and he is no longer with us.
Here is an excerpt from the Texas Soaring Association's website Posted earlier this week:
"It is with great sadness that we report the death on Wednesday, July 23, of long-time Texas Soaring Association member and soaring legend Richard H. (Dick) Johnson in a gliding accident. Dick took off from TSA about noon and released from tow south of the airport. Contact with him was lost and after an aerial search the wreckage of his glider was located about 2 to 3 miles southeast of the TSA airfield. Dick was already deceased when the wreckage was reached by rescuers. No further information about the cause of the accident is known at this time."

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Johnson family. I met Dick a few times and was always impressed by his friendly and helpful personality. He was a great soaring pilot, a great promoter of soaring, a fantastic engineer, and a gentleman. He will be missed.
